ILCAO & Family Medical Centers’ WIC program hosting community BAM! Celebration 2023

ILCAO’s Family Medical Centers are pleased to announce an upcoming community celebration in honor of Breastfeeding Awareness Month (BAM) hosted the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. The event will take place on August 22 from 10AM to 2PM at Ironton Market, 218 S. 2nd St., Ironton, Ohio.

The BAM! Celebration will feature live music, inflatables, games, snacks, giveaways, and more. Representatives from the Ironton-Lawrence Community Action Organization (ILCAO), Family Medical Centers, WIC, Lawrence County Early Childhood Academy, and Lawrence County Health Department will attend. Each booth will offer attendees a chance to learn more about free community services, win prizes, and collect fun giveaways.

The theme “Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a Difference for Working Parents” explores the connection between breastfeeding and employment. This year’s focus emphasizes the impact of paid leave, workplace support, and evolving parenting norms on breastfeeding experiences.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees can also contribute to WIC’s month-long diaper drive, assisting local families in need.

The Ohio WIC Program, a parent program of the local Lawrence County WIC branch, encourages breastfeeding as the preferred choice for infants’ nutrition, offering education and support for families to make informed feeding decisions. Their mission, as well as a mission of Lawrence County WIC, is to create a breastfeeding-friendly environment and empower families to achieve their infant feeding goals.
