ILCAO’s Family Medical Centers participates in Ohio University’s inaugural Culture & Heritage Festival, honoring Juneteenth

ILCAO’s Family Medical Centers proudly represented the organization at Ohio University’s inaugural Culture & Heritage Festival on Saturday, June 17, in commemoration of the Juneteenth holiday. The event, held from noon to 7 p.m., aimed to recognize the historical significance of Juneteenth and celebrate the vital contributions of Black U.S. Americans to the nation’s history.

At the festival, ILCAO’s Family Medical Centers’ dedicated team of Community Health Workers took an active role in providing education and referrals to programs and services. Their participation was instrumental in raising awareness about various health initiatives available to the community, ensuring that attendees were well-informed and connected to essential resources.

Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, has long been cherished within the Black U.S. American community as a symbol of freedom and liberation; however, this momentous occasion remains relatively unknown to many Americans. In a bid to address this knowledge gap, Ohio University launched its Juneteenth programming and activities in June 2021, with this year’s Culture & Heritage Festival marking an important milestone in raising awareness and fostering inclusivity.

The event featured live music, food, and educational sessions. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the critical role Black U.S. Americans have played throughout history, enriching the nation’s cultural fabric and shaping its identity.

ILCAO’s Family Medical Centers has always been committed to promoting community health and supporting initiatives that foster a sense of unity and understanding. Participating in Ohio University’s inaugural Culture & Heritage Festival aligned perfectly with the organization’s core values and dedication to improving the well-being of individuals and families within the community.

ILCAO’s Family Medical Centers would like to express their gratitude to Ohio University for organizing this meaningful event and providing a platform to honor Juneteenth and celebrate the diverse cultural heritage that enriches our society.
