ILCAO’s BAM! Celebration sees 250 diapers and wipes distributed to families in need, encourages more families to access free services

The Ironton-Lawrence Community Action Organization recently participated in a Breastfeeding Awareness Month (BAM!) Celebration hosted by its Family Medical Centers and the Lawrence County Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. The event, held at the Ironton Market on August 22, brought families and community organizations together to promote breastfeeding and provide valuable resources to local families.

The BAM! Celebration offered a day of entertainment, including live music, inflatables, games, snacks, giveaways, and more. Representatives from Family Medical Centers, WIC, Lawrence County Early Childhood Academy, the Lawrence County Health Department, and many more were present to offer information about free community services and provide opportunities to win prizes and collect giveaways.

This event marked the culmination of a month-long diaper drive designed to get resources to neighbors in need. During the event, WIC distributed almost 250 diapers and wipes which were generously donated by the community.

The event’s theme, “Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a Difference for Working Parents,” emphasized the importance of supporting breastfeeding in the workplace. It was designed to spark conversations about paid leave, workplace support, and evolving parenting norms and how they impact breastfeeding experiences.

This free event not only provided entertainment but also raised awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding and the support available to parents through organizations like the Ironton-Lawrence Community Action, Family Medical Centers, WIC, and more.

ILCAO encourages local families to explore the free community services available to them, from breastfeeding support to early childhood programs. To find out if you’re eligible for WIC services, or to sign up for WIC, call 740-532-2646, option 3.
