The
Department of Community Development was established in 1981 to provide a wide
array of services to Lawrence County. These services are ever expanding to include
such activities as providing emergency rental assistance to homeless persons,
working to provide economic development/job creation opportunities throughout
the County, improving and expanding public infrastructure to unserved and underserved
areas in the County and performing the duties as the administering agent for
various grants at the County and municipal level.
The
work performed by the Department either directly or indirectly touches the lives
of nearly all of the residents of Lawrence County. The Department’s dedicated
staff works directly with all levels of government, Local, State and Federal,
to see projects from conception to completion assuring that all regulatory/policy
requirements are met. In today’s world of ever increasing needs for public assistance
and the ever shrinking mechanisms to fund these needs, the Department utilizes
its knowledge and experience in dealing with project/program funding agencies
to get the most out of each dollar granted to Lawrence County.
